Guests of Honor

Each year Conduit brings in guests from around the nation for the enjoyment of fans. Last year we has Tim Russ who played Tuvok on Star Trek, Voyager Young Adult author Tamora Pierce, and local costuming genius Mary Ellen Smith

This year we have four wonderful Guests of Honor. In no particular order, the first we have an actor who has been in series like Star Gate SG1 and Touched by an Angel. Then we have a wonderful woman with a doctorate in Folklore and Mythology, who has published books like Star Trek Fans and Costume Art and videos on topics ranging from ghosts and vampires to Harry Potter. Next is an author who took his understanding of weapons and eschewed the classic "our bullets won't work on 'em

Larry Correia - Author Guest of Honor

New York Times bestselling fantasy novelist. His first novel, Monster Hunter International, despite being self-published reached the Entertainment Weekly bestseller list in April 2008, after which he received a publishing contract with Baen Books. Monster Hunter International was re-released in 2009 and was on the Locus bestseller list in November 2009. The sequel,Monster Hunter Vendetta, was a New York Times bestseller. The third book in the series, Monster Hunter Alpha, was released in July 2011 and was also a New York Times bestseller. Larry was a finalist for the John W. Campbell award for best new science fiction/fantasy writer of 2011.

Alexis Cruz - Media Guest of Honor

Actor, known for his performances as Rafael in Touched by an Angel and as Skaara in Stargate and Stargate SG-1. He started his acting career when he was 9 and attended the School for Performing Arts, the Fame school, when he was 13. He went to Boston University majoring in Independent Technical Theatre. Alexis appeared as assistant D.A. Martin Allende in the legal drama Shark, with co-stars James Woods and Jeri Ryan. Along with Erick Avari, he is the only other actor to appear in both the original Stargate movie and the spin-off series Stargate SG-1. Most recently, Alexis has been promoting his new graphic novel The Unprofessionals.

Paul Genesse - Local Guest of Honor

Writer of young adult fantasy novels and a cardiac unit nurse at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. His first book, The Golden Cord, was a best seller for Five Star Publishing.

Heather Joseph-Witham - Academic Guest of Honor

Best known for her work with the show Myth Busters, but that is only a small part of her contribution to expanding the understanding of the myths and legends of fans. She directs the Cultural Studies program, produces the annual Otis College Storytelling Festival and teaches some of the following courses each semester: Legends, Fairy Tales and Folklore; Vampire Literature and Lore; the New Age and Modern Spiritual Cultures; History of Toys; Science Fiction in Literature, Film and Culture; and, Witchcraft in Religion and Society.
